Responsible Gambling

Gambling is entertainment that costs money. It is not income, it is not a way to recover a loss, and no system, strategy or staking plan changes the arithmetic. If it has stopped feeling like entertainment, the rest of this page matters more than anything else on this site.

Age

This site is intended only for adults aged 19 or over. We publish no province by province breakdown of the legal minimum age, because we have no sourced figure for each province and a table assembled from memory would be worse than none.

Why this page prints no telephone number

Because we could not source one we would stand behind, for any province or nationally, and a wrong number is worse than no number. Somebody reaching for help does not need a dead line. Every organisation named below publishes its own current contact details, and going to the source is both safer and quicker than trusting a figure an affiliate page copied from somewhere.

The same reasoning applies to self-exclusion. We do not name a register, describe how to enrol, or state how long an exclusion lasts or what it covers, because none of that is in our evidence. Your province's own gambling service is the authority on its own programme.

Set the controls before you deposit, not after

Most operators offer some version of these in account settings. Which ones exist varies by operator, and we verified the tooling at none of the brands we list, so treat this as a description of the category rather than a promise about any site.

  • Deposit limits. A cap per day, week or month. The most effective single control, because it binds before the money moves rather than after.
  • Loss and session limits. Where offered, a ceiling on losses or on time in one sitting.
  • Reality checks. A periodic on-screen reminder of elapsed time. Easy to dismiss, which is itself worth noticing.
  • Cooling-off and self-exclusion. A break, or a longer block designed to be hard to reverse on impulse. How these work and what they cover is a question for the operator's own responsible play page inside your account, and for your province.

The caveat this whole site is built around: a deposit limit is a setting, not a safeguard. It sits in a layer the operator controls, it binds one account at one operator, and it does nothing about a second account somewhere else. Set it anyway. Just know what it is.

And if an operator has no published limits page at all, that is information rather than an inconvenience. It tells you which layer that operator's protection story lives in.

Signs worth taking seriously

  • Depositing more than you decided to, or more often than you meant to
  • Playing to win back a loss
  • Gambling with money committed to something else, or with borrowed money
  • Hiding how much you play, or how much you have lost
  • Gambling to manage stress, boredom or low mood

Where to get free confidential help in Canada

Support is provincial, free and confidential. Go to the organisation directly for its current contact details:

  • Your province's own gambling support service. Every province funds one, and your provincial health authority's website is where to find it. This is the first place to look and the one that will know what programmes your province actually operates.
  • The Responsible Gambling Council, a Canadian non-profit with self-assessment tools and provincial resource directories.
  • Gamblers Anonymous, for peer support meetings across Canada, in person and online.
  • Your family doctor. An underrated first step, and the fastest route to a referral.

Blocking software

If you want gambling sites blocked at the device level rather than account by account, tools built for that purpose exist and work independently of any operator, which puts them in a layer no operator controls. That is their main advantage. Whether your province operates a central register for its own regulated sites, and what registering there would cover, is a question for that province's own gambling service.
